“Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave, because he strayed across the path of Lord Voldemort. Remember Cedric Diggory.”

BIGGEST FEAR:
His biggest fear is to lose his twin and his other brother to this strange magical world forever, that they one day just wouldn’t want anything to do with him or their parents, because they are muggles.
PERSONALITY:
CALM: There is not much that can really bring Hugh to lose his temper. He never even rants when he’s stuck in traffic. Even as a child, he was more often the mediator they turned to in quarrels amongst his many siblings, rather than being in them himself, and he thrived on the role of eldest brother, even though he was only five minutes older than his twin sister. If there is something he dislikes, he will address it calmly and won’t be provoked. Some of his peers might think him lame for it, but he makes up for it in physical fierceness – on the piste!
OCCASIONALLY FLIRTATIOUS: That he is calm doesn’t mean he’s overly quiet though, and if he wants, he has quite the way with words. He likes the company of girls, and has had a few flings and one longer-lasting relationship, though he is single right now. He will not go around boasting his greatness, but he will always try to get the girls to let their hair down, if he likes them well enough.
SPORTIVE: With the kind of career he has in mind (sound editor) you might think Hugh would sit around at home in front of his computer all day,but that is by no means the case. He has always loved to do sports, and he found his favourite sport in fencing. He has been in it since being six years old, and since fencing is not only about waving around with a knitting needle, he was used from an early age to do some moderate strength training and he goes jogging every afternoon after school.
AMBITIOUS: It has to be said, if Hugh does something, he does it properly. He has the high dream of becoming a leading sound editor for the BBC or maybe even go to the US and work for Hollywood, so that one day people will sit in the movies, listening to a soundtrack he created with his skill, making blend perfectly and just take people on a wonderful adventure right into the story of the film. But then there is also that other dream in the back of his head and he is unsure which to pursue more: He’d like to turn fencing into more than just a hobby, since he has already been succesful at some tournaments, which earned him the nickname D’Artagnan with his peers. Hugh wants to be good in everything he loves, and even in those things he doesn’t love as much, so a good graduation is on top of his list as well.
EASYGOING: Hugh is quite easy to befriend and he loves to be in bigger groups of people, having fun. He might not be the one talking the most or the loudest, but he won’t sit in a corner for long, brooding over this and that. Sometimes he’s the leader in things, sometimes he’s the tag-along, but he aways enjoys himself and this in return makes people want him present whenever they think up some event.

MOTHER: JULIET ZIMMERMAN NEE HOLLOWAY
FATHER: GABRIEL ZIMMERMAN
SIBLINGS: TWIN: GIRL, 17 ; brother: 15; sister: 15; sister: 14
HISTORY:
Hugh was born to the young muggle couple Gabriel and Juliet Zimmerman who lived in the city of York as their first child, but he didn’t stay alone for long, since five minutes later his twin sister was born. You could fairly well say that Hugh had a happy and innocent childhood, and most of it he shared with his twin sister. Even though they were of a different gender, these two could hardly be seen apart, and their parents didn’t even have to enforce the ‘typical twin clichés’, they just fulfilled them, safe maybe only from wearing the same things. At the age of six, both Hugh and his sister signed up for fencing, mainly because Hugh was infatuated with it, and his sister just liked to do anything he did. It was Hugh who showed true dedication and skill, while her fields of expertize might lie elsewhere, she had yet to discover them. The Zimmerman’s had to handle a large family, but since Gabriel made a decent income as a tax accountant and Juliet added to it as a teacher, they could fulfil many of their children’s dreams concerning their field of interests.
Even though Hugh was close to all of his siblings, no one thought that really anything could separate him and his twin. He himself believed the same thing, even though he knew a few things no one else did. Every brother thinks that his sister is something special, but very little of them have the means to prove it. Now Hugh knew very well that sometimes his twin could do peculiar things, and the most telling and impressive demonstration of that was given to him when they both were nine years old. They had been practicing with the other kids in the fencing hall all afternoon, but since their mother couldn’t pick them up on time, they stayed a little behind while the others left. One of the fencing teachers was preparing for the older fencers to come in during the next half an hour and in a foolish act of recklessness had left a few rapiers lying around. Even though the children were already changed into their normal clothes without the protection vests, they picked up two of the adult rapiers and started to fight with the unfamiliar weapons, reenacting a scene from the Three Musketeers.
They were still young and even though the teachers had told them time after time to be cautious, they felt safe in the invincibility of youth, this feeling that absolutely nothing can happen to you. Just that it did, or almost. Hugh had just gained the upper hand on that fight and had cornered his sister, when he lifted the rapier for the pretended coup de gráce. He underestimated the weight of the weapon just for one second and the tip of the rapier came down to slice into her exposed neck – or it should have. The cry of fear and shock still on his lips, Hugh watched in absolute awe as the tip of the rapier coiled backwards, away from her skin, giving him enough time to retreat the weapon and take a step back with trembling limbs. He had seen it, and yet he couldn’t believe it – as couldn’t she. “Don’t tell Ma or Pa”, she whispered. “This is… weird. I don’t want them to worry.” Hugh nodded earnestly and they took a Musketeer’s oath on it. The incident was never spoken about again, he kept his promise – until the day everything changed.
That day was the day a large owl came fluttering to the open kitchen window, leaving a letter in brown parchment, addressed to his twin sister. This letter said that she was a witch and should be proud to be accepted into the honorable Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. After that, Hugh’s life was never quite the same. Suddenly he had to accept a life without his twin, he even had to accept that she had magical blood and that he was something called a ‘muggle’. He went to Smelting’s academy and they kept close contact with letters, though he had a hard time hiding from his school mates that he was receiving her letters by owl. Ever since this very owl also attacked his beloved chipmunks, he holds a very deep grudge against her. He also doesn’t like Hogwarts, since it seems such a ‘wonderful and amazing’ place by what his twin – and later also his little brother – tell him, and his own school is not. Not like that at least. Sometimes Smeltings could be a really rough place, even if the people he hung out with were a really decent sort. In his heart of hearts, Hugh knows that he is a little jealous of his two siblings who are so special. Why did the magic rip two sets of twins apart? He certainly doesn’t understand it.
But gladly, he found many other things to occupy his mind with over the years. In addition to fencing, he discovered his love for the technical things, especially sound systems and how to work with programs that created soundtracks and effects. He would never be the creative composer type, he knew that, but he still had a knack for synchronisation. Soon he started on a few amateur projects, dubbing snippets of movies with a new blended soundtrack her created out of the simplest of things. He equipped his PC with better and better programs, and soon started to dream of a career as a sound editor for bigger productions. He also had his first try on a longer lastin relationship when he was sixteen. Amelia was a pretty girl, but she was prone to gossiping and talking mean about others behind their backs. She pressed him to give fencing more attention and leave the sound editor thing behind, but later he found out that she only did it, because she wanted to be the 'girlfriend of D'Artagnan, the fencing hero'. As he didn't want to be influenced in that way, he ended their relationship and she soon found someone else.
In a way, the forced seperation from his twin helped Hugh in developing his own personality more, even though he still misses her dearly and savours the weeks of summer, when they go back and live at their parent’s home until the start of September. This year is his final year at Smeltings and in all honesty, he can’t wait to get out there and into the world. He wonders if after school he and his magical siblings will continue to live a separate life, or if the two worlds might touch in a way. His grudge against Hogwarts and all that is attached to it has died down a little recently and in his letters he begins to ask a few more questions, wanting to know more.
In many aspects, Hugh’s future is quite open at the moment, and he doesn’t know if he likes this feeling or not. What will it bring? Will he find a girl? Will he become either a professional fencer or a sound editor? Will he keep seperated, as a ‘muggle’, or will he find a sort of entrance into this strange other world. It is a part of him, after all, is it not? Who knows…
